It does sound nice at idle, and when you crack the throttles it just growls :s3
The long intake trumpets give this engine bags of torque down low so it was still reasonably pleasant to drive on the street .... well to and from race meetings anyway!

It's not to hard to convert to a 2 litre from a 1600.
You won't need an engineer's certificate because you're not modifying anything structuraly, and the car was designed for a 2 litre anyway.
Just make sure that you use the 2 litre engine mounts when you bolt it in.
Yes the exhaust, fuel line and electricals will need to be swapped to the other side of the engine bay, but it's not difficult to do .... you'll have a lot of fun .... trust me!!
I would also suggest that at the same time you swap the front suspension strut assembly's for 2 litre units.
They have stiffer springs to support the 2 litre's extra weight as well as having larger diameter discs and bigger calipers, and are a straight bolt in swap for the 1600 units.
