Escort RS 1800 BDA , Rego was YJA 444 as driven by Greg Carr, Mike Bell and Malcom Wilson. the Cosworth engine had Cosworth LI cams that developed power between 5000 and 11,000RPM.
The sweet spot was between 8000 and 10,000, thats where the fabulous sound comes from
Uhmmmm 11000rpm in a cosworth are you talking about pinto block(no chance, read flying rods and pistons, crank all over the place)no mater what cam or what you do to it.!!!!!!!!!
A N/A BDA 1600/1800,BDG 2000 will spin to a max of 9500-9800rpm @240bhp+ with extensive work($10000 later) not 10700rpm sorry.
The works Esocrts had full Brian Hart built race BDA's . All alloy and by the way cost 70,000 30 years ago. They were factory rally cars and not available unless your were in the team of course.
An new BDA engine now costs almost 100k and the do rev past 10,500 RPM. But only works engines were revved that hard. I am visiting a fdriend on mine on Tusday who rebuilds BDA's
I am having the best of fun this year, racing the escort at the local hillclimb track after years of building the thing. Got a 1st a 2nd and a 3rd so far; 5th in the club championship and leading the class. The 2 litre is a top little motor with a big bore to stroke ratio (unlike all those jap lean-burners) loves to rev (to about 7000rpm) and is relatively cheap and easy to fit big valves, high compression head and big cam to for good power.
what a great pic of a great looking car. i had a rally pack that looked almost identical except for the arches.
sensational looking car there mate :-)

My two cents worth. Get a later model motor. It will be cheaper in the long run.
But if you want, I do have a 1600 Xflow, GT carb and manifold for sale. $500 for the collection. You get an engine, a carb and manifold, tubular exhaust, and 2 4speed manual gearboxes.

Congrats on the purchase, be prepared for sideways heaven. With a decent motor, MkI-MkII EsCortinas are just THE best drivers car on the planet for the dollars.
Never ever ever give one up, unless its just too rusty or too bent. You WILL regret selling. And good 2 doors are getting really hard to come by.

But if you want, I do have 1600 Xflow bits for sale. $600 for the collection. You get an engine(x1), a GT carb(x1) and manifold(x2), tubular exhaust manifold(1 good one, one not so good one), and 2x 4speed manual gearboxes. I also have a few spare heads(x2) if youre interested.
They were last used to make my MkII Cortina go (so you wont be able to use the block legally in a MkII Escort). I now have a good 2TGEU + Supra 5 speed that are itching for a new home. So they're being left on the shed floor permanently unless I find a new home for them.

Ok, so I havn't been on here in a LONG time (long story), but now, finally, I'm BACK!
Aaanyway, I got my hands on another Mk II Escort, for $50. It's a 4 door, with a 2 litre Pinto & 4 speed. It had a little rust (ok, slightly more then a little, but nothing that was beyond repair) in the panels behind the front wheels, the engine was in parts, the drivers door and steering collumn needed to be replaced (the previous owner got bored and took to the drivers door and the steering collumn with a anglegrinder :/), oh and it needed a new exhaust. But, after some work, it is now all ready to get a roadworthy and then be re-registered.
Thing is, I've still got the 2 door, but, as I've posted in another thread here, the engine is stuffed. I'd like to keep it and turn it into a weekend toy, but a) I don't have the space (moving into a 1 bedroom unit in a week or so's time) and b) I don't have the money (only working 3 days a week in a service station isn't great for the wallet, and it doesn't help if you have an expensive hobby like cars).
So, I guess I'll have to sell my little yellow 2 door, I just hope it ends up going to a good home.
