New User Help with my Escourt. - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

HI all i am very new to this forum.
Very glad to have found you all.
I moved to u.s a year ago and got given a ford escourt.
It is a 96 model 1.9 engine.
The alternator went today i tested it with a multi meter.
I am from england so i have no idea if i would be getting ripped off, so how much should i pay to get it changed??
Also i am thinking og just doing it myself it looks like the alternator is right at the top.
Do any of you know where i can download the manual for this car? Or maybe one of you can let me know how hard it is.
I will not be able to get the car off the ground so if i need to get underneath for a bolt forget it.
This car has gone 122k on this engine and still going strong. This is the second alternator to go.
I got this car from my grandmother in law she got a new kia spectra which i think is crap compared to the ford.
Also i had a look under the bonnet sorry the hood and alot of the stuff like the air flow meter is made in japan is this a mazda with a ford badge??
I hope you guys can help i do not really have much cash and i just got my first job in U.S which i start next monday so i need the car. It took a full year for immigration to let me work.
By the way all my name is malcolm.
I have a bad bearing in the back which i need to sort out sometime. I want to keep this car going forever.

Hi Malcom.
I'm not from USA so I can't help with costings but I would think the alternater would be fairly easy to change over yourself.Just be sure you dissconect the battery first before working on it.
You could take it for repair or find one at a junkyard to replace it.
