I was hoping someone can give me alittle insight as to what the heck is going on with my car, let me explain what happened: On way to work on freeway started hearing a ticking noise then car just suddenly died and there was a kind of burned smell , but we were really low on gas so thought we ran out of gas, so got gas and oil put it in, car started went to work on next exit, left work on freeway again, ticking noise back and burning smell and car died, rolled to gas station, saw there was no water and put water in, when we put water in but didnt put cap on and tried to start car the water like exploded and splashed out like a volcano eruption, anyhow once the car cool down we were able to drive it home, but i could hear like water bubbling, and on way driving the person following us home said they saw like water splash out once.
we thought maybe it was a cracked head, but the car wouldnt have no power right?? i just dont know, and I just dont want to take it somewhere (being a female) and have someone take advantage of me and charge me more then necessary........



thanks for your replies, well like i said i know nothing about cars, but is the head gasket what they would call a cracked head? my bro in law took it to mechanic friends shop real quick to do a pressure test, n it has pressure n does not look like a cracked head to them, plus the car has power, and they said the car wouldnt have power if it was that....... i do know that the water was really low, oil was low but registering on dip stick ok. they also checked in the engine, no water in the oil......... also said the hose feel really hard and tight when turn the car on now??? i dont know if any of that info helps, any ideas? i wish i was a woman that knew about cars, it really sucks, and some mechanics will take advantage of the fact you know nothing about cars... so i REALLY appreciate any help, thanks

It sounds like it's probably the head gasket. When it's cold, does the water bubble out the radiator? Was the oil low? How low was the coolant?

As suggested by Bert , probably head gasket gone due to running low on oil and water . Cooling system will be pressurising if that is the case . A block test will confirm or eliminate gasket . If not that , get back to board and you will get more help and other things to check out .

Depends on where the head gasket goes whether you get it mixing with oil or not . With the rad . hose pressurising , usually a sign of gasket knackered .As already suggested , a simple block test will confirm or not .
