Re: Possible engine choices for Mk II Escort

hi,i ran a mk1 escort with a rover v8 back in england, the motor is identical to the P76's,i cut the bulkhead & tunnel to fit the around the motor, which sat way back for good weight distribution. It is quite tight around the motor, but it does fit with custom mounts made up,and with the normal carb, cam, heads, headers etc,280bhp is easily achievable, doesnt sound much but in a small car with no weight,it will really shift!not sure if your regulations allow the same mods though,i understand their strict on things like that?

Re: Possible engine choices for Mk II Escort

I don't know this for a fact but I have been told that if you begin with an automatic Escort the gearbox tunnel is already large enough to fit the Supra gearbox (the Rover 3.5L only ever had an auto gearbox). Other than the fact that the V8 is a good 80 pounds lighter than the Pinto I don't see any real reason to pursue this possibility.

Sticking with the Pinto block really is the smart choice as you don't need to muck around with mounts and therefore engineers certificates.

Hi

Yeah man i reckon you go with the rover v8. The other option is a lexus v8, they go hard man. Pretty light too. We put one into a capri and it wasnt to much of a squeze. Just had to make a few minor modifications

Re: Possible engine choices for Mk II Escort

I cant recall the name of the of the company but someone in QLD is doing 289/302 Windsor Conversions for Mk II Escorts.....
And if you wanted to go away from Ford motors, Look at puting a Nissan V8 out of an Infinity.. 4.5L V8, Goes very well

not quite the case the Rover 3500S 's were manuals but very rare on Australian soil unfortunately.

How about a Mazda 929 V6 engine? They are RWD, technically Ford & you can pick up a whole V6 929 for around $1000-$2000. Can't remember whether they were 2.5 or 3.0 litre. I would not be surprised to find that they were the same engine as the Probe/MX6.
