Possible oxygen sensor problem in '97 Escort?

The check engine light came on in our Escort wagon a week or two ago and our mileage is way down. We normally get 500-650 kms to a tank but are only getting about 400 right now. We've changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, pcv valve, all within the last month.

Just over a year ago we replaced the oxygen sensors (both of them) and it seems to be the same sort of problem. How often do these things go? Is there something else it could be? The car seems to run normally other than the excessive fuel consumption.

Re: Possible oxygen sensor problem in '97 Escort?

Hello..here in Canada anyway..especially in the S.Ontario.Quebec area..for some reason..this is not an uncommon problem..yours.Often the culprit is the new O2 sensor. If it is NOT an original manufacurers part..yes more money..maybe try one.

sometimes with an aftermarket sensor, they have to be earthed, normally a grey wire, but check this first
