Ok so My wife drives an 1993 Ford Escort Wagon. I'm not sure about which motor is in it at this time.. But anyways back to the story, She was coming back from the store. She parked the car without a problem, no nosies not flickers.. nothing... Then 30 mins she has to head back out so she goes out to start the car.. well she puts the key in and turns it.. nothing.. no power to the radio, key,door alarm,horn nothing that the inside fuse box runs... She can turn the headlights on thou.. I did some checking.. and There is power to the main Fuse box in the eng comparment but no power to the interior fuse box that runs all those.. I took (Forgot real name for the tool, but it lights up when power is running thought it.. its a lightblub with a wire and clamp on one end then an probe on the other) "light stick" and clamped the neg battery and probed the main fuse box.. it has power to all.. I clamped the pos battery then probed the body,eng anything metal.. it has power also.

I heard about this reset switch.. well it is not sticking out and there is no power running to it.. I tryed to look at the wireing layouts for this car. The only thing I could find that maybe in the middle of the main and the interior fuse box is an relay switch, EEC power Relay.. But it is 60 some dollars.. so I can't just throw money around trying things..

Has anyone ever heard of this? or can anyone help me? Is there a way to test this relay? and yes I probed the wires into this relay and power was on one of them. but not the others..

Am I missing something?

you said you've used your circuit testor on the ecc relay, so I'm assuming you've already located and correctly identified it. What you can do is just take that relay right out and take it to a dealership or major garage (like a chain franchise), and they can test it properly for your, for little or no charge.

I know this is going to sound very basic, and I'm certainly not trying to insult your intellegence, but have you checked the fuseable links (big fuses) in the main box in the engine compartment? If you check your fuse guide, you'll see that just one or two of those happen to protect all of those systems you mentioned, and not the headlights. If you have the 1.9L like I do (and yes, the 1.8 and 1.9 are totally different in almost every way), then it would be that third one down, 100 A, that supports almost every single one of those. Also, was that reset button that you checked the one just above the internal fuse box right below the dash?

Well I had this thread also going about 3 hours in the electrical area hoping someone would beable to help, Seeing how there was no replys here..

Power Lost. Big Problem. Need Help.


Update: Well I tracked the problem down to this.. when I moved the an fuse BTN power would come on for the whole car.. This was after I checked the reset button and started testing circuits.. Well it was late one night and I was checking power from the battery to the Alternator, per wiring diagram it states it always live.. well I have done this time before during the day and power was there.. well I tryed and nothing.. no power.. so I back tracked... next thing is the main fuse.. So I used the light stick on the far side.. power there.. then the other side.. then power came on for the whole car.. I was like WTF?

So I press it in with the light stick.. the lights for the eng compartment get stronger.. So I got a screwdriver to test this.. I pressed it on the screw.. and same thing.. so I tryed to tighting it..

Well... this is where the problem is.. Some how, Someone Used an Wood/Metal Screw that was twice as long as the bolt that should be there. The screw went all the way to the other bolt and had melted the plastic around the main fuse.. So Off to the Junk yard for another one..

Pull old one off.. wired up new one.. and connected battery while praying. All worked.. I still have somemore tests to run on the car to see what all could be wrong with it.. who knows what else they didn't do correctly with the car..


Oh and yes the reset button was that one.. I also checked the fuel too.. just incase.. then I went to wiring diagram to track it down.. For that relay it was wrong correctly that was just where my path of power stoped.. So went to junk yard for that to test.. no way i'm buying an 60 dollar part just to test to see...
