rev counter woes

hi i have a mkiv 1989 xr3i cabirolet that im currently restoring, and im having a little trouble with the revcounter. no mater if im crusing or booting it the rev needle never goes above 2000 revs :( ive check on the back of the instrument panel and all the connections are good and clean...someone mentioned to me it might be a timing issue but the car has plenty of power and will still hit top speeds of <>125mph and i havent started on the engine yet....

any suggestions

ps. anyone know where i can get a black or white roof canvas?

Tia

Hi Suicde-c .I would suspect the gauge itself would be the problem. Remove the tacho and have it tested. Sounds like a cool project. How long have you been restoring it.

a few months now, its starting to look more like a ride and less like a rustbucket everyday :)

yeah i guess it could be the electrics behind the rev conter..

Thanks for replying

I know, old thread, but the same thing is wrong with my 1988 RS Escort, revs to 1k and stops

The guy we bought it of said he had it looked at and fixed, but it broke again soon after.

I'm just going to get a nice aftermarket one to replace it :)
