Just wondering if there's anyone out there who can shed some light on a problem i am having, i'd prefer to fix it and avoid replacing the whole transmission!
I purchased an 88 model Ke Laser from ebay with transmission issues, thinking it'd be a quick fix/adjustment.
The previous owners said it was an intermittent problem with the 3rd and reverse not kicking in and instead going into nutruel, no slipping just non existent. Last owner changed fluid and filter then had a go at adjusting the brake band with no improvement.
Since i aquired the car i checked the linkage's, adjusted the brake band, ensured there were no leaks and inspected the fluid which is light-ish red and barely smells burnt, not really dirty.
I removed the pan and discovered a steel bearing and small but thick spring, this is the part that boggles me!
I would think that if the clutch pack was worn that it would be a persistent slip issue, and not comming and going. The last time the 2 gears went was when it started raining, i don't know if this is connected but every detail helps. Dose anyone know if steel bearings are used in the valve body or plastic ones?
Right now i am leaning towards either the valve body or shift solenoids, but am on a shoe string budget and not an expert so need good advice before i waste money on parts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
