It depends on the situation weather extracotrs are a bad idea, sure they'll give you a performance increase (which is what your looking for), but as your young you'll have trouble with insurance companies, it'll void most insurance contracts, and not a lot of companies will insure someone your age with extractors on there car. Other that that, extractors tend to let off more heat around the engine bay than stock exhaust manifolds a often you'll find it can damage other parts, nothing serious and with a bit of effort you can get around this...

A 2" exhaust mandrell bent with a straight through muffler and hi-flow cat are always a good idea, although without extractors a hi-flow cat and paying the extra for mandrell bent may be pointless and the money could be better spent elsewhere - but then again if you wanting to add extracotrs when your older (if you still have the car then) and insurance companies are more lenient, then these are good for 'planning ahead'.

Since the cars new and you don't know what's previously been done to it a nice service may be a good idea, flush out the cooling system (radiator etc.), new oil filter and drain out the old oil and use something quality (as oils ain't oils...), a good set of spark plugs and quality high tension leads have proven to give cars a couple of extra kw's, and a quality brand air filter (e.g. K&N) will help to make your car 'breath easier' - also a better air intake snorkel if it's easy to do, is a good idea (maybe have a look in the engine bay of a stock turbo one and see if there's anything that you can upgrade to which isn't there solely because the other cars got a turbo - e.g. with the new Falcon XR6's people put the XR6 Turbo air intake snorkels on)...

Obviously these are all cheapish mods as you only said around the $750.00 mark, which is what all this would cost (not including extractors)...

But then again if you want true performance, buy a Falcon!

Re: TX3 i need help!

yep i agree,
give the car a good going over, give it a service and etc, change your gear oil!!!
i own a 90 tx3 n/a (now a turbo) and 2 weeks after i brought it my gearbox exploded
i now run shell atf, (so far so good), extractors are a big bonus with the bp, but yeah your insurance will cop it, run a k&n panel filter, remove the front hoseon the box and run it down to the spoiler then you will notice the differnce in kw!!

Re: TX3 i need help!

AGGGHHHH ATF NOOO!!! No matter what the manual says DO NOT RUN THE GEAR BOXES ON Auto Trans Fluid its far to thin to actualy do mcuh good. I would suggest penrite (cant remember the exact oil) for manual boxs which is about ~30 for enough oil for a tx3/laser box, Castrol Syntrax if you have some cash which is about $80 for enough for a tx3/laser box or even redline anti shock racing oil which is harder to get and around 120 for the box.

You only change your gbox oil every 50,000 dont go cheap on such a weak part in anotherwise good package.

Bakc on topic.
4-1 extractors and a good 2" exhuast will be an improvment aswell will a K&N replacment filter or a decent pod filter provided its done with a CAI. If you have access to 98 ron fuel (optimax/ultimate/etc..) chuck the timing forward about 3/5 degrees you will get better millage and much much better repsonse on the long skiny pedal.

I did a CAI and timing on my older 4 door 1.8 SOHC 16v engine and it made a very big difference and around town/resnoably heavy driving i got about 6.5/7.5l per 100 km :)

He lives near me, and the best fuel we get is the noraml 95 ron Premium Unleaded (at all Petrol stations, none of the 98ron stuff) - bloody Tassie...

Re: TX3 i need help!
