VIN problems

I flew to Vic from Sydney and bought a XR2 turbo capri 1993 from a car yard....they said it had clear title...i checked the vin against the rego on the dash and the tags and they all matched....
Got home and today i noticed there is the vin on the shock tower stamped in ...and underneath there is a dotted vin that is different ...they are very similar all that is different is the serial numbers and the month code which is one month earlier......i checked and all the tags appear original and the dash one is the same
can anyone help me here........
