My battery light came on, since I had just replaced my battery, I disconnected my battery while the engine was running to check the alternator. The engine ran for a few minutes and then died. When I hooked the battery back up and started the engine it blew the fuel pump fuse and the windshield wiper fuse. I replaced both fuses but now the windshield wipers will not shut of even with the switch in the off position. The dirver's window will not work either. I had to pull the windshield wiper fuse to get it to stop. The fuel pump is working now and the light is no longer on. How can I get the window rolled up and get wipers to work properly? This is for a 1999 Ford Escort LX

What kind of car and what year is it? On these newer cars, disconnecting the battery with the engine runnig can blow all kinds of modules and even the PCM. The surge of current is bad for the system. You may have a few parts to buy.

Here are the diagrams. You probably need a wiper motor and a one touch dow module. I don't know what to tell you except it needs to be tested because these aren't normal failures.

Bo idea on the wiper motor but probably needs a new motor. You can check the diagrams to see what has to be checked to be sure. The motor would be my bet. But without checking it, I couldn't be sure.
