Have a 98 Escort with 2nd bad engine with timing belt issues. Is there another engine that can replace this one as there are no good used ones to be found and repair is too costly for this car? Or is there no other alternative but to junk it?

What's the problem with the engine timing belt issues that make it uneconomical to repair ?

Timing belt shredded and got the sensor and the valves. Have been told that it would be roughly 900 plus just to rebuild the head. This is 2nd engine to do this and after checking seems this is a rampant problem with this engine. Checks with repair shops, junk yards etc. and there are very few if any good of these engines out there.

If it's just head / valves that are knacked and you want to keep costs down , can you not get a head and whatever needed from scrapyard and stick it on ?

Have tried that route and none are available. They are grabbed the minute they come in. The local yard has 8 or 9 and all have been taken.
