I have a 2006 AWD Ford 500. Lately when we go to leave in the morning, get in start it up, put it in reverse and it goes NO where. When you put the gas pedal down and the engines revs then a loud clunk and the car shoots backwards. Almost like the tires were frozen down. Granted,here in northern Wis. it has been down to -30 degrees at night. But the car is in the garage. What gives ???? It has a CVT trans. in it. Can I check the fluid ??

I Would Take It To A Trans Shop And Have Them Check Your Pump Pressures And Your Torque Convertor After You Check To Make Sure Your Fluid Level Is Good. You May Have A Stuck Valve.

Ok, lets try something simple. Put it in neutral. With you foot off the brake have someone push the car backwards. If it still won't move or does the same thing it's most likely a brake issue. If it rolls freely, put it in drive and see if it goes forward. If it clunks like when trying reverse then you have low fluid. But then again, if it's that low it wouldn't go very far, intermitently loosing drive. You would also see spots on the ground under where the car sits.
