2008 Taurus - Sirius Antena

I just took delivery of a 2008 Taurus SEL. It appears that it came pre-installed with the Sirius Sat. antenna. Is this so? I would like to add my Sirius Tuner and would like to use the factory antenna.

Any secrets to getting the faceplate off the radio/ac controls to access the wires? Probably just pry's out but I thought I would ask first.

If you have the antenna then you should have extra information about how to activate it and what the vehicles SID # is. Dealer should have done this for you. If there is no card with the SID # on it there are usually a combination of buttons on the radio to press. This also may serve as the regular radio antenna with out sirius. No, you can't use the factory antenna with the over the counter recievers. Only the add-on kits that may be sold by Ford.

Re: 2008 Taurus - Sirius Antena

It does not have factory installed satellite. The regular antenna is embedded in the glass. I guess I am asking is if all the cars roll out with Sirius antennas or is the fine on the back to just look cool.

biggrin 2008 Taurus - Sirius Antenna

I just took delivery of an 08 without the factory Sirius. I want to install my Sirius receiver and it appears that there is a factory installed satellite antenna on the roof (mini shark fin). Do these cars come pre-wired with the sat. antenna? And if so, does the antenna wire go the the radio or does it terminate were that factory Sirius receiver resides? If so, were would that be?

Or, is the shark fin just there to add stability

cool Re: 2008 Taurus - Sirius Antenna

You may be able to use it. My friend who is a stereo installer said he always finds that they all work the same with some modification. Sometimes you have to remove the outer clip and the center antenna is always the same.

Smile Re: 2008 Taurus - Sirius Antenna

I just received my new 2008 Taurus company car, which came with a "shark fin" antenna and no factory installed Sirius sat. rad. I purchased a new Sirius Sportster 5 unit and installed it yesterday.

If you did not purchase Sirius from the factory, the "shark fin" has NO antenna /wire installed! I scoured the web looking for an answer to this question, and could not find anything until I did this project!

I removed the rear dome light assembly to access a nut and retainer that holds the fin in place. I removed the nut/retainer and removed the fin without dropping the headliner (difficult but do-able). I had to grind off the high spots on the shark fin's metal base plate and grind a little of the plastic off the Sirius antenna to make it fit within the fin (very carefully!). I also removed a plastic clip/plug which was attached to the base plate with 2 tiny screws on the metal base plate, so the Sirius antenna wire could be fished through the base plate easier. It took a few hours, but I installed it within the stock fin and ran the cable up to the front dash and installed the Sportster on a dash air vent. It works well and looks decent.

If you spend a LOT more money you can buy the Ford Visteon kit, which comes with its own sat. antenna which probably fits right into the shark fin assembly without modification. I would rather save $$ and do it myself! The Sportster also has a lot of perks that the factory sat. rad. doesn't have.
