mad Re: 05 Montego Transmission Problems

I have a 2006 Montego with 54,000 miles and the same problem. As the RPMs drop lower than 1100 the transmission bucks. Started four months ago every now and then. In April had my local trany shop check out the problem and change the fluid & filter. Problem did not go away, took a 1000 mile trip and had problems all the way there and back. Not every time, but more frequent. Then this week the transmission started bucking ever time I started to slow down to stop.
Local Ford dealer is working on the problem. Sad that such a nice car has transmission problems with only 54k. My car only had a 36k mile warranty and now Ford want $4100 to replace the transmission. I think Ford has sold a defective transmission. As others have noted Ford recognizes there is a problem but they are not willing to correct their product. In todays economy, Ford needs every customer. Three of my last 4 cars were Fords. I'm looking to replace my 1996 Aerostar with a truck, maybe a F150 but now a Toyota is looking better.

This is my first and last Ford product. Thanks for the info ~ pushing me more towards making the trade. I see there is an interest in phasing out Mercury in 2012 anyway.

Re: CVT/AWD expensive problem

Not enough time went into the design of the CVT. That's why it's 6 speed only offered now mated to the new 3.5L V6. I'm guessing that the CVT in the old 500 and such wasn't properly tested for real world drivabiliy and just to think when Ford thought they had caught up with Nissan - the CVT leader. Technology costs money and with Ford in the red, they just don't have it takes to compete in that segment - right now.

Good info by the way.

Re: 05 Montego Transmission Problems

Took my Ford Five Hundred to Ford dealer while transmission was hot. It acted up for the Ford technician who drove it. They called later and said they have doubts that the repair described in TSB 07-26-9 would work. They recommended that I buy a new transmission at a price of $ 4,600, which I quickly declined. For the time being my transmission works fine for local driving so I'm holding off as long as I can, hoping that Ford will finally figure out how to fix this problem as more and more owners experience it.
Has anyone out there actually tried the fix in the TSB?

mad 2008 Taurus Transmission Problem

I've had my 2008 Taurus for almost 3 months and it's already been in the shop 4 times for 4 various repairs and I have another problem that they won't do anything about. Major disappointment as this is my first brand new car ever.

Here's my situation: The mechanic told me they realize there's a problem with my transmission but Ford is "investigating" the "fix" so their service departments can't fix it until Ford tells them how to. (BTW he said this same transmission is in the Taurus, Taurus X, Edge, and one more but I can't remember now what the 4th one was.)

The problem with the transmission is that it hesitates when going into 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear. It pauses for a second and then jerks into the next gear.

So I've got this brand new vehicle with a bumper-to-bumper warranty and they basically refuse to fix the problem.

What can be done?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Have you tried another dealer yet??? And would you want them to replace something that doesn't fix the car??? They can't just throw parts at a problem. Warranty won't pay for that. And if they have a parts restriction on the trans. then they can't do anything right away.

Re: 2008 Taurus Transmission Problem

Yes, I've actually tried 3 different dealers now. It took the 3rd one to be honest with me about the problem. The first 2 told me they couldn't find a problem or get the car to duplicate what I told them it was doing.

Maybe I just need to be patient & they'll come out with their "fix" before long. The dealer said he couldn't estimate how long it would take.

It's just frustrating to have a brand new, $30K vehicle with all these problems.

Thanks for your reply.

Re: 05 Montego Transmission Problems

I have the same downshifting problem. After flashing the TCM, I took it to a bigger Ford service dealer, and they had seen this problem one other time. They found a faulty mechatronic, a $1,488 repair. But, that is not all. When they are replacing and see any internal damage, i.e. burnt rings, they recommend replacing the tranny. So, it seems that the service bulletin to fix code in the TCM is not a long-term repair, and Ford needs to make this a recall. I was nearly killed on the freeway when I had to speed up to avoid a tractor trailer. Hopefully this fix will do it.

Re: 2008 Taurus Transmission Problem

I have the SAME EXACT problem...my dealer told me the first time that they could not duplicate the issue. I took it back after the transmission jerked so violently that the front end felt as if were coming apart. They said they couldn't duplicate yet again. I then left instruction for them to NOT DRIVE the car until I was there. I took the "transmission guy" for a ride and they "flaring" as he called it happened. They called the Ford tech line, Ford informed them to drive like vehicles and that the symptom was normal. I say b/s to that. I even suggested a fluid / filter change to help. They said since no codes were found and Ford said no, that I should just....QUOTE " Drive it until it breaks...if it's out of warranty, I can use a policy allowance."
I am calling Ford and raising He!! until someone listens. I'll let you know the verdict...
