Just got back from the dealer for the second time. Bought the 2008 Ford Taurus AWD with 5,685 miles. Love the all the bells and whistles (bluetooth, sirus radio, and the smooth ride. The transmission is not working. It jerks as it goes into second gear. It has happened infrequently, when I leave it with the dealer they cannot reproduce it. I did purchase the extended warranty. Any suggestions how I can get the transmission to not work? As I look at the postings, it is the same thing that is happening to my car.
I've been fighting a transmission problem for months with my 2005 Ford Five Hundred 6 speed. It works fine around town, but acts up when downshifting after an hour on the interstate, especially when dropping below 25 mph. However, I have discovered that it rarely malfunctions if the temperature outside is below 75 degrees. Since the weather has cooled off, my wife or I have made 4 trips of greater than 100 miles, and the tranny has been fine. My local Ford dealer recommended a new transmission as the best fix to the tune of $4600......which I declined. I'm going to talk with a transmission shop about the possibility of adding a transmission cooler. That might allow the car to run ok next summer.
I also have started to have this problem. My '08 is FWD only, with 14.5K miles. The hard shift only occurs when the fluid is cold. Interestingly enough, when I back out of my driveway and start forward, it shifts fine. Possibly because I am going slowly. After stopping at a couple of stop signs, it will then shift hard, and not do it anymore.
I have also noticed a slight shudder going from 1-2 when upshifting after driving a while. It is very slight, though. Does any one know if/when Ford will create a TSB for it?
2008 Taurus X. we have 5 of these cars in the denver, colorado area and 3 of them have had issues with "shifting." 2 of the team members took their cars into Lakewood Ford and the issue was identified as, "throttle control board," or something to that extent. this morning i dropped my car off at Burt Ford and explained that there was a problem withthe shifting of gears, but they were not aware of anything off-hand. i have since called back and left a message that it may be something with the "throttle control board." my company covers the cost of a loaner car and i now have that. hopefully they find the issue and take care of it.
check back with your dealers on this one. one team member was informed that it was a known issue around 20k, so we may be onto something.
isn't it a bummer when the "buyer" is actually the R&D for major corporations?
I am joining this thread with a 2009 Flex because my six speed transmission has what I would describe as a very violent thud on occasion. I am guessing the Flex has the same trans as you who own the Taurus.
The first occurence happened with just 60 miles on the odometer! And now with 1500 miles, it has done it a total of about ten times. So, just like many of you have experienced, the dealer could not duplicate the problem when he kept and drove the car for THREE days!
Let me tell you...this is not just a rough shift. What I am describing is a VERY big thud, where you think you've hit the biggest pothole of your life or you've been rear-ended hard, or that the darn tranny is falling out of the vehicle! Lasts for just a second then back to bliss. Strangest thing.
My dealer is not aware of any TSB for the Flex so I am in limbo and VERY disgruntled.
New Update:
Here is the information on my service invoice:
A cust states that while driving at cruiz speed the trans/engine will buck/surge when it shifts in o/d gear.

Went to the dealer with a knocking / ticking noise. said that either the transmission chain or pump is starting to go. Just out of warranty, said there's nothing they can do to help. $6,500 for new trans. They said that the new trans will have a 100K warranty??? Loyal Ford customer, bought three new cars from same dealer. Not any more!! They can go bankrupt. I'll be looking for a Honda or Toyota next time.
I've got the same problem. Dealer couldn't find anything wrong. It's got 37,000 miles on it and it is the worst trans I have ever used. Contantly slams into gears. Is this the same trans that Ford used on the Fusion?
Well I have an AWD malfunction and the FORD dealer told me it was the rear differntial oil pressure pump and switch that needed to be replaced, almost a $2k expense. Any advise, I was told that it wasn't something that would affect the transmission, just the AWD.
