I feel your pain, I also have transmissions problems.
My name is Andre and I am a former employee of the Ford Assembly Plant that was in Hazelwood Missouri. I have been trying to contact someone to help me in a terrible situation. I bought a 2005 Mercury Montego because I fell in love with the car, and up until now, not only am I disappointed but very unsatisfied with my car and Ford Auto Company. I was driving my car one night and it would not go forward, the more I press the accelerator the more it did not move. I had to pull over to the side of the road. My car would not go into forward or reverse. The next day I had it towed to Paul Creame Ford to be checked. Rick called me back and told me that I need a complete transmission and it would cost $6,000.00, (before they even checked it out.) I then proceeded to call or who I thought was Ford the manufacturer to see if they would stand behind their vehicle. Yes, I am over the manufacturer warrantee but only by 1,763 miles, in other words I have 37,693 mile on my car. They contacted the dealership and the dealership contact me, and told me that would only pay part of it and that they would not know the price until they check the vehicle out. A few days had pass and the dealer called my and said, " It cost $5,500.00 to rebuild your transmission and Ford will only pay $3,500." Rick also said that I would be responsible of the rest. I called Ford back and spoke to a supervisor and basically stated that they would not and will not over turn that decision. I have been trying to contact Allan Mullany, and Benny Fowler but have had no success. I feel that my car has a MANUFACTURING DEFECT that is the reason I need a transmission and I also feel that $5,500 is a outrageous price to pay for a transmission for any vehicle. My concern is that Ford will not or wont stand behind their cars. I need help in getting this matter resolved.
Well I have an AWD malfunction and the FORD dealer told me it was the rear differntial oil pressure pump and switch that needed to be replaced, almost a $2k expense. Any advise, I was told that it wasn't something that would affect the transmission, just the AWD.
Thanks,
If the car is under warranty (mileage or time) then there should be no cost to you to fix the vehicle. The dealer gets reimbursed from Ford to fix the defect.
AWD vehicles actually have two transmissions. The CVT, which is the main transmission connects to the transfer case (AWD transmission), which in turn controls the axle speed (front and rear depending on traction conditions).
My knowledge in the 500 AWD system isn't that good but I can tell you that for Ford to install a gear oil pump in the rear, isn't a good sign of reliability. Most axles lube themselves as the gear sets in the pumpkin (axle) turn, eliminating any type of pump.
So, I'd check with another dealer if your over mileage for warranty work. Also, instead of purchasing new parts, check local salvage yards, you should be able to find one for a good price. $2K seems VERY steep for just a pump and switch. My guess is that a lot of that price is for labour...I'd ask the dealer to break down the cost. If anything else, if the parts are only $200, you can purchase the parts and get the repair done elsewhere for a lower labour rate.
The dealer is also correct, the AWD system won't affect the transmission. I still wouldn't wait too long to get it repaired.
Yes I have taken my Five Hundred into a Ford dealership and was told I need a new transmission. I don't understand why there is no recall for this problem. It is cleary a manufacturers defect that is effecting a lot of people and is definitely not safe...
Dear Folks. I have a 2006 Five Hundred with 65k on the odometer. My car has the CVT trannie and is currently in the shop for the third time because the transmission is going out. Unfortunatly for Ford I DID buy the extended warranty and is , therefore still covered. Even still Ford will NOT replace the trannie even with it's extensive record of problems. What did I do? I went to my handy dandy Philadelphia lawyer(literally), gave him all the history and paperwork, including extended warranty. The attorney is ruthless, resourceful and mean - typical Philadelphia attorney. He told me to go out and buy a jar of Vaseline for "Henry" because guess where this trannie is going!!! If anyone wants the name of the firm, let me know. I'm going to court.
I also have not had issues with my car since we have been having colder weather. The only time my transmission begins to act up is when we have warmer days. I would love to have the name of the lawfirm. I've been trying to figure out what to do with my car for the past six months. I did not purchase the extended warranty, but was told numerous times by Ford that since I did not have the extended warranty they would not replace the transmission. I'm glad I didn't go out and buy it!! I also logged complaints with consumer affairs and the department of highway safety. Neither of these did any good!!
Same trans problem around 55k. Dealer determined it needed a module, not whole trans. Repair cost $2K of which Ford split 50/50, as they did with one front strut, the air conditioner, steering rack and pinion(which I believe is going out again) and the shift linkage.
Like the car, but can't afford to buy another Ford.
I just found out today that my 2007 Mercury Montego Premier with the 6 speed transmission needs a new transmission. The car has 71,000 miles on it and I am SOL as far as Ford is concerned. It gets stuck in first gear while upshifting to second and then sticks in second while downshifting to first and reverse quit working.
This is obviously a highway driven car. I am a salesman and have never had transmission problems before. This is my first Ford. Another thing to watch out for on these cars are the rear brake pads. Unlike any other car they wear out before the fronts do.
I had a transmission guy I trust look at my 05 Five Hundred and he said he didn't see how an external transmission cooler could be added. That's too bad since it seems so obvious that my problem is related to hot fluid.
Has anyone with the 6 speed Aisin Warner transmission problem tried the fix described in Ford TSB 07-26-9? It involves replacing the valve body and reprogramming the TCM/PCM.
I have an 08 taurusX with 53000 miles, we bought it with 13000 miles. We have had transmission problems for the majority of the time we have had the CAR. WHAT IWAS TOLD BY MY fORD SERVICE MANAGER (WHO HAD a taurus X of his own) is that they switched the transmission from a 5 to 6 speed so the gears are so close together that when you are going slow (like through a parking lot)the the gears will drop 2 at a time usually from 3 to 1. Its very annoying and ford should fix the problem because it is not right or normal for a car to preform like this. Have you noticed the taurus X is not available this year that should be a sign! I will be taking mine in for the 3rd time on monday.
Taurus X is no more as the Flex now carries the 'wagon' sales and the Taurus has been redesigned as a sedan only. I haven't tested the 3.5L V6 with the 6 speed yet, but from what I've read in magazines they claim it's a smooth unit (must have been NEW test vehicles), and that the transmission is built for fuel economy and upshifts as soon as possible.
I'd check around and see if there's a software update available for the transmission. The dealer might be able to find that there is one available, and the service manager has never been told about it, or bothered to investigate on the matter.
