Re: Merged-Transmission Problems??? Please post them here...

2008 SEL FWD 14,000

I experience an intermittent slip in first and then it bumps into 2nd when starting out cold. At speeds around 40-45 I also sense a slight surging which may be the transmission between 5th and 6th however this is slight and could be road imperfections as I cannot watch my tach for very long and it could be my paranoia.... I have had the PCM flashed, but I really didn't notice any difference in performance. I am taking it to the dealer again but do not have much faith as the problem happens infrequently.

Thumbs down Re: Merged-Transmission Problems??? Please post them here...

I to am another victom!

I have a 2005 500 with the CVT tranny. The problem started around 40K miles, it will buck and shake when decelerating around 25MPH. And it doesn't start doing thing until the transmission gets hot. And of course I live in Phoenix! So it doesn't take long. When the engine and tranny are cold, the car runs perfect. It almost seems if I could somehow keep the tranny cool, the car would be fine.

2005 Ford Five Hundred (CVT) - Serious Transmission Problem

Overall no complaint for this car till yesterday. The check engine light lid on when I drove normal speed on highway and then won't move. Dealer diagnosed and asked to replace whole transmission, which is $5,400 plus tax. I've already file the complaint at Safercar.gov website. But when Ford will respond to that and how? God knows. This will be my last Ford car. Byebye Ford!

That has been a problem with the CVT transmissions. How many miles are on the car? Have you contacted Ford with the 800 number in your owners manual? I wouldn't quit Fords over a something like that. You'd have to walk to find a car that doesn't have any problems. I have mechanic friends in various dealers and every manufacturer has some weak areas. One, like Toyota has some trans. problems with some of their Camrys. Others have weak areas somewhere. Whether it's drivetrain, body or suspension, no vehicle is perfect. All we can do is let the manufacturer know what's been happening and hope they correct it.
