Poor Gas Mileage

I just bought a 2009 Taurus SEL with 43000 miles. I am only getting 16 to 17 mpg in the city and 24 to 25 on the hi way with cruise. The car purrs like a kitten. I thought it would do better or I would not have bought. Should I be concerned about this or is it normal? Thanks

Re: Poor Gas Mileage

Hi acaby. Welcome to the forums. I think its normal especially if you are using ethanol added gasoline. Pure gas might give you a 1 to 2 mpg. Advertised MPG is 18 city and 28 highway.

Re: Poor Gas Mileage

That's probably about it. Driving conditions and style make huge difference. My wife drives an 04 focus and we've never hit 30 mpg. Advertised is achievable if all conditions are good.
