i am going to put a 460bb in my xc fairmont but i wanna know what kinda power will it make in stock from and how fast will it go down the 1/4 mile?
it will be with a C6 auto and a 9" diff with 3:55:1 gears and i will use a holley carb 4brl with a performance menifold and a exhuast system to go with it all i think a 2 1/2" system with extractors will do fine but if i am wrong plz correct me.
and if anyone knows of better mods for the stock 460bb please do tell me as i have no experiance with any bb before.

Thanks to all that will answer me.
CK351 I can't keep up with your project, I thought you were going the stroked 351, that would put out around 400-450HP.
I don't know what a stock 460 HP would be exactly but would be somewhere between 350-400HP, with a cam, worked heads and a solid bottom end you should get 500HP easily, remember Torque is more important for quick street times than HP, "HP sells engines torque wins races".
1/4 times for a stock 460, my guess would be around the 13-14 secs with the setup you mentioned. with 500HP engine, 12's
I still think you should go the 351, less hassles with engineers certificates and easy to fit in, also more parts are available, and less fuel. If you go the 460 I'd make it an LPG only engine, the cost of petrol would be huge!!!
nar well over 500 aparently teh 429's were officially rated at 500hp but they were well over, ford had some reason for underrating their motors at the time however im personally not sure what that was, but a 460 would definitly have over 500hp and im talking about stock................

Most 460s were not performance motors and would not put out anything near 500hp stock.
Most of them in pollution trim would be hard puahed to knock out 200 Hp but with moutains of torque.
Thankfully it doesn;t take much to wake them up.
I reckon your looking at 13's, I've got a few mags with this sort of thing. One bloke with an XA coupe with an absolutely mad 351, switched to a pre-pollution 460 with some mild work. Reckons it isn't any faster, but is far more streetable and even a bit easier on the juice. He was getting low 13's.
The 427-8-9's were performance engines designed for NASCAR and road racing. The reason ford was in to understating HP was so that these cars were insurable - you're right though, they made way more power than they let on about.
460's were for cruising. All the same I'd much rather a big block than a 351. Just want more...
If you want to race a big block, go pre-pollution - late 60's I think- And parts would have to be pricey. You'd do better with something like a 428 Cobra Jet than a 460, but then you're looking at big $$$.
When I had a very mild 460 in my XY, it ran 12.6 @ 111mph. This had a 750vac Holley on a factory 4bl manifold, extractors and mallory twin point dissy. Basically totally stock internally.
