That motor had D1 heads (1971). From memory, these did have the pollution "bump" in the exhaust ports. The current motor has D0VE heads, and they plow better out of the box. I had Allan Waye port the heads, but the iron BBF heads always suffer on the exhaust side....
Yeah, the Glide is a 2 speed. GM product in a Ford.... They're lighter and stronger than C4s or C6s, and one of the best Glide experts is a friend of mine. Both the XY and Cobra have Glides, and both of them are built to handle 1000+hp, so I know they'll never give me problems.
As stated with a dominator, cam, extractors and modified heads this bloke with the XA coupe was getting 12.3, and to quote Q777; "When I had a very mild 460 in my XY, it ran 12.6 @ 111mph. This had a 750vac Holley on a factory 4bl manifold, extractors and mallory twin point dissy. Basically totally stock internally.".
In short, yes, you'd expect to get mid-high 12's with a pre-pollution 460 in an XC.
As for the Boss 429 that thing had MAJOR traction issues.
I hope you don't mean mid high 12s with a *stock* 460. If that's the case, Ford did a great job of knobbling the Boss 429 to run 13s !
its a well known fact that the boss 429 mustangs were built to homologate that motor for nascar, even tho they didnt race the mustang in nascar! they were shoe horned into the 69-70 mustangs and with a tiny little 735 cfm holley, tiny hyd cam, cast zorst manifolds(restrictive as ****)they still managed a high 13,low 14 sec 1/4 time from the factory!
They even had a rev limiter in em...... carcraft and hotrod magazine tested one with a set of headers,850cfm holley and with no rev limit and they were running low 12's with ease, and thats in the 70's,when they were new! The boss 429 is a whole different thing to a 460....

Clevo u said "HP sells engines torque wins races". that's not true...it's the other way around...hp wins races on the track and torque wins on the street by making the car drivable... As for the 460 u can make eazy power and the motor will still have lots of torque.... This torque will be plenty usefull especialy in a heavy car which XW/XY is not (comparing it to the XA/XB/XC especialy the coupes). Another aproach would be (considering money is not a problem) is to get an SVO or Dart Windsor block & bore it .150 over, 4.2" stroker crank with rods & pistons to suit & you willl have 454ci stroker windsor....I think SVO makes a custom billet cranks with a 4.25" stroke which will bump the cubes up even more....This way you will not have any engineering issues because the XW's were fitted with windsors....put some nice big flow heads on it and you have a wolf in the sheeps skin....

The quote is by Carroll Shelby, you may have heard of him - and its "Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races." He won a few races.
