Hey all....
Anybody running toploaders? I've been running them for several years with no problems.......BUT, this coming race season(4 weeks for us in the cold northwest) I will be running a 380 inch stroker cleveland(ol' engine was 357) and expect to be churning out several more horsepower, also plan on launching car harder(7800-8200) and shifting at a higher rpm...8400-8600. Old engine ran 7000 launch and shifted at 7400.....
I guess I'm asking if the 'ol toploader is going to handle the added cubic inches and torque?
Old engine combo produced a 11:26 @ 121mph at 6500 corrected air....which figures in the neibor hood of 450 hp......
Is a Jerico in my future( MY much poorer future....)?
Bruce

We found the outer limits of the strength of the Top Loader when we were drag racing our SS/N car. The car had to weigh 4070lbs, we had an 8200RPM rev limiter button for the startling line, and 7800 down the track. With 15.5 X 33" tires, and a 40lb wheel, we started breaking Top Loaders. At that time, we were buying gear sets from Pepe Astrada (Pepe's Gears) in LA. When the car was screwed to the ground, we started exploding Top Loaders. Had to go to a DNE 5 Speed to solve our trans troubles.
