I'm having my engine built for my 71 Mach1, and I will need to replace my 650 Double Pumper Vacumm Secondary Holley Carb. Since I'm new to this, I thought I should ask someone with Cleveland Street/Strip experience on your opinion of what would be best for my set up...this will be an occassional weekend 1/4 mile warrior and driven on the street some. I would say 10%strip 90% street . I don't have all the specs, but this is close to what I think it will end up being .. 456 gear, C6 Trans, 3000 stall, drag shocks 3" X Pipe, Hooker Comp Headers, 2 Chamber Flo's, Changining Mechanical Fuel Pump to Electric. MSD Ignition, Curved Advance
351C Ram Air ( Functional Plenium, Vents, but not with Breather) , Stroking it to 394 ci, All Forged, Approximately minimum 600 Lift Hydraulic comp Cam, or may opt for a roller if I can come up with the extra doe. I'm not sure what the cam duration will be. The engine builder said the target is 450-500 HP and torqe above 400 FTP . Closed Chamber 4V Heads, or could opt for the Aussie Heads-not too late, guide Plates, Single Groove Valves, Double Springs, Crane Roller Rockers,351 Torker Intake, Engine should turn 7500 rpms without problem. I'm hoping to get it under 13 seconds but not sure if It will until I try after rebuild.. It was stated that I could go up to an 850 CFM but not sure eninge would do well on the street with an 850, strip may be ok, but let me know what you think ? I would greatly appreciate it . Try to keep in mind I would like to keep my functional Ram Air, so I would need Vacuum Secondaries ..
Thanks

I ran a similar motor in one of my cars that had gen 450hp at the flywheel on the dyno yrs ago I ran a 3310 holley which then was rated as a 780 vac sec its now rated as a 750???it was quiet streetable and pretty quick on a circuit. It is not a double pumper but neither would be the one you mention as vac secs to my knowledge dont run two acc pumps hope this helps cheers Dave

Hey 71M1, welcom to Ford Forums. There's a specific Cleveland engine section on here......just look a little further down on the main page under the Garage section.

http://www.fordforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=497

I just got a 393 Cleveland which is pumping out 591hp @ 6850rpm and 511ft/lbs torque. That's only using my Holley 750HP Pro (double pumper). The 850 would work well and I'm sure wouldn't give you trouble on the street at all. Ideally, I need a bigger carb too.

If your 4V heads are ported right, then with a 393 your should be close on 600 if you want it. That's with a cam around 260@50 and 650 lift (solid flat tappet). You'll most likely have issues it you want to spin a hydraulic cam over 6500? You don't have to rev these strokers all the way to 7500 as they make power much lower......unlike a 351 trying to do the same thing. You would most likely need a better manifold (TFC or CHI). These are single running designs and work great. About AU$650.

There are more guys with 4V's in the other section that can help out more with how to get them working nice.

Looking forward to seeing this down the 1/4! With your current setup and this good motor (and slicks), I don't see why 11's aren't around the corner....12's easy!! You may need to think about a little more stall in your converter too if you go the bigger motor/cam!

Good luck.
