I may not have been able to go to the meet in the weekend but the next best thing was the Warrnambool Drags. They have recently constructed a launch pad on the end of one of the runways and now hold 1/8th mile drag races. It is run by the Warrnambool Drag Racing Club and was open to anyone to go there and race. It was the 2nd meet they had had this year after not having one for 6 years. It was really good there. A nice cool 13 degree's pleny of big hp cars. I was one of about 4 street cars there
A little intimidating but once i got into it it was awesome. Scrutineering there was quite tight. They required things like tailshaft loop's, oil filter clamps, etc even on street cars. I managed to get through without the tailshaft loop and the guy gave me some ties to use as a clamp. The offcials were really good as well, they were always cleaning the launch area and really doing things by the book. I did 5 runs over the day, 2 qualifying and 3 in the dial-in races. I got through 2 elimenations and lost the 3rd.
I did some varying times... 10.48, 9.72, 9.93, 9.81, and 10.15. MPH ranged between 73 and 80mph and 60ft times were between 2.1 and 2.6 seconds. No real mishaps on the day apart from stalling the car on the first run during the burnout. Then getting massive wheel spin in 1st and 2nd and then missing 3rd
All I can say is that it really does pay to warm the tires properly. I had much better launches when the tires were nice and hot :)
The day was extremely well run. They had 4 lanes to line up in for qualifying so basically you went to lane 1 for your first run, lane 2 and so on. It meant that you pretty much went for a run straight away while those who had been on already had to wait a while. It worked really well. The dial in races they divided it into 3 catagories A, B and C according to how fast the car's ran. I was about halfway through the C catagory. Dial in racing is so fun. Its really competative. One of my run's I new I was going to break out so I purposly let the throttle off before the finish as I was still ahead. It payed off as we both broke out but since my breakout was smaller i won. I had dialed in at 9.8 and ran a 9.72.
Anyway here are the vids:
I won the race against the blue thing what ever it was and lost to the V6 gemini wagon. So that was my weekend :s5
