1975 XB Falcon Coupe - (Moffat Racing) - Ford Forums

G'day Ford and Coupe enthusiasts,

New to the Ford Forum. I recently became the owner of a very original and well kept 1975 XB Falcon Coupe. I have been trying to trace some history on the car. Why? It is finished in the Paint Code: Y422 Thorn Red Moffat Racing. The original specs of the car are as follows:

Model Code 18313 (XB Falcon Hardtop)
Engine Code Y, 302 V8 (Local - small port)
Transmission Code B, 3 speed C4 Automatic
Paint Code Y422, Thorn Red (Moffat Racing)
Trim Code B, Black Vinyl
Options 03 - Seat Belts(Mandatory)
1 - Power Steering
32 - Console
39 - Carpets
48 - GS Pack
56 - Driving Lights
68 - Sports Suspension

Dealer Code 2120 - City Ford
Dealer Location Sydney NSW

The car has the build date RJ (Sept 75) with revised build date of Oct 75. All around the time of Bathurst. More details of my car can be found at:

The GT Historian tells me only 2 GTs were produced in this colour, while a pic from Bathurst that year shows five cars on a transporter. City Ford, who were also the major sponser of Moffat for Bathurst that year, do not have any remianing records.

Has anyone seen others in this livery or know anything about them...(i.e. promotional cars, Moffat Specials, mad Moffat fan?)....

Sounds like quite a car you have there.
Sorry to state the obvious, but have you asked Ford themselves?

Yeah, Ford provided the original specs via the GT Historian. They don't have (or give out) numbers for a particular Paint Code unless GT.....They advised me to contact City Ford, who in turn had no records or anyone that was with the company long enough to knoe anything about the cars.

Unless I'm talking to the wrong people at Ford I don't think ther eis much info available.

Very interesting car. Does the gold at the rear of the car look like a factory job or dealer job? Could the car have been delivered in red and then the gold added later by Moffat?

The car has been resprayed close to original spec. The original gold can be seen inside the vents and appears factory. The previous owner informed me that the back was originally gold and the pin striping on the sides and over the rear quarter and boot were also there. He made some minor changes at respray (i.e. gold honecome on back was black with silver edge). The Paint Code Y422 indicates more than one colour from the factory (i.e. the gold paintouts) and the code from Ford is specifically "Thorn Red (Moffat Racing)".

An email from Allan Moffat, via his web site, recieved today informs me that City Ford sent the five cars to Bathurst on a transporter (as seen in the B&W pic on the web address provided above) as promotional vehicle...none were race ready. Other than that he could not offer any further info about the cars.

Very cool.

I've heard that McLeods did a similar stunt with a truck of John Goss Specials for the 75 or 76 race. I've never seen pics of such a truck so maybe the person who told me was confused with this truck.

Nice bit of history you have there.

Just looking for the last piece in the puzzle. Car is all original except that previous owner replaced diff with XC Borg Warner and rear discs....Interior vinal has been reapolstered, the rest is in great nic...

Mate I've found a couple of colour pictures from my books and will scan them asap, most of them are the standard front 3/4 shot though. I'll keep looking. Digging my pictures out of storage as I said will take a little longer.
