Hi guys I bought a falcon 500 hard top about a year ago and was told that it was an ex S.A. highway pursuit car. It is badged a falcon 500 and was made in 1978 but it came out with a 351, 4v heads, 9inch, discs all round, cose ratio steering box, oil cooler, vents on the side and a spoiler on the back. It also has four round lights on the front as apposed to two rectangular ones. My problem is that I can not find any information on these cars, how many were made or even if they existed. The guy who sold it to me said he bought it from a police auction in 82. Any information would be greatly appreciated or if someone coud steer me in the right direction that would be great.
Mate I don't have any firm info, but all I can offer is that the cops used to get rid of the cars after about 70-80,000 Km/s, which dosn't take long in a cop car.
The only other advice I can suggest is a site caled www.falcongt.com.au you might get some info there or find a link, other than that try a local falcon club, they may have someone that can help.
If you can catch it.............. You can have it!
I know in victorian xb's they had speedos with more lines in them so they could read speeds to the klm and hwy patrol cars were basicly a gt falcon 500, in that they where 351 4v with toploaders if they were a manual and nine inch diffs (not sure if they were disc rear or not). Not sure if xc's were like this, not even sure if sa xb cop cars were like this, so I'm probebly no help at all :D.
A mate of mine had an XC coupe ex cop car. It was 351, GS front, FMX auto, nine inch disc rear end. It also had the side flutes, rear sway bar and a sump guard. I believe there were about 400 XC coupes sold to a few police forces. Some ex police cars have a different dash set up in that the speedo is white instead of black I think. One interesting thing we found with my friends XC was that when we removed the head liner we found ribbon wire curled in the roof. We think it may have been to power the flashing lights but we are not sure.
