hi all

Here I go again about black centre consoles...

I'm after a lid for a black centre console in good condition without any cracks or pieces missing etc. Can anyone help?

Hi, there's one on eBay at the moment, but it's saddle-brown, though I think the lid is black.

Don't know how successful or durable colouring it would be.

mine used to be brown. a bit of vinyl spray, hey presto....black. time will tell how durable it is.

yeah its the durability i'm worried about. Ive seen that console, dont think its what i'm after for a lid. I check "XC" parts on eBay daily as a religious ritual lol. The lid i have on my console is missing a small piece in the back but its frustrating me...

You do the same as me (on E bay) That console you're looking at is mine. They used to make the lids repro but they couldnt do them properly so they stopped (too many complaints) .There are plenty of places that restore them, black would be easy. If you dont mind paying too much try www.fomoco.com.au. Are there any good Ford places (for XC parts) in Adelaide? Im going there in a couple of weeks, to watch the cricket, lol.

I heard about the repro lids, apparently they were sheitzen and some were made of fibreglass from what i was told. I didnt realize the lids could be restored, probably my best option. As for good Ford places in Adelaide, HAHAHAHAHA. Not a chance. unless your willing to go to Lonsdale, which is about three hours drive out of Adelaide, dont bother. Ive been to most of the wreckers and they have sweet F.A. in parts and about equal customer skills. Whatever parts there were have long dried up or i bought them

Lonsdale, that's where the Mitsubishi plant is, right? Remember that ALL the lids are BLACK underneath. The one I have in my car has been repaired. It had a sticker on it to say where but it was about 20 years old do I took it off. Mine need re doing as well. Will get the seats done first. I need them to match the colour to the faded green console.

My Xb console was brown. My panel beater said the best way to do it was scrub the crap out of it with a scourer and thinners (which strips all the moisture) and the paint with vynal paint which then soaks right in. Mine has lasted over 3 months so far and looks great still.
