Ever since I was about 3-4 years old I've wanted an XC

Now I have a job where I can afford to get one after I save up for a little while, and I have my license etc.. but there are little to no coupes on the market :(

Either they've had work done and are $8-10k+ but in the wrong color, or are cheap as but horrible condition lol

I just want a moderatley priced one, hopefully in the color I want, that's in decent condition.. does it exist? :o

Even one that costs a bit more if it's in the right colours etc.. red, black, or yellow mostly.. not icky brown etc lol

Try e-bay, there have been a few reasonable coupes around. You can allways get an xb and put xc panels on it if you must. It does open up other possibilities.

I'd settle for an XB, but would prefer the XC. I check ebay every day lol

I wouldn't buy a car without seeing it in person though..

Just found an XC GS on carsales.com.au.. heap of work done to it.. $22,000 lol ouch

Good on you mate! Its the best decision you'll make. If your after an XC, wait for a decent XC to come along in your price range. Thats what i'm doing. And while your waiting, buy whatever spare parts you can, especially if your after a certain colour interior! Things to look for, (ive found anyway) GS grills in good nick (few or no cracks and few broken screw holes), GS dashes with instrument clusters where the needles havent faded (the needles on the instruments tend to fade from bright red to dull orange), centre consoles (dont worry bout the lid, as long as the console body is in good nick, the XC console is different to XA-XB consoles, different screw pattern in the storage bin and different shift arena trim) and steering wheels. Get a decent GS steering wheel while you can. In the end, the main difference is the pollution gear, thats why they didnt bother with an XC GT, which can be easily disabled by a qualified engine rebuilder. Dont worry about the paint, unless your doing the car up to concours condition, paint the car whatever colour you want...

Daniel.

You're spot on. Start buying your spares now BUT don't go over board or you will not have any money to buy your car! Now is also the time to start going to every car show you can. Even a 4-5 hour drive to a show can pay off in the long run as you can always find cars for sale at a car show. Also, join a local Falcon club and get to know the members. IF you don't pester the hell out of them BUT ask good honest questions and show a true willingness to learn, then the members will really help you out. AND, that is when you will start finding reasonably priced cars. There are lots of cars that can be bought for a decent price BUT there are few cars for sale. These cars carry a lot of sentimental value for most owners so they may not list them for sale but they may sell them to the right person with the right attitude. Humility and a willingness to listen and learn from the more experienced owners goes a long way.

Oh, and as for the color, forget about that. IF you find one in a specific color you like and it is in great shape thenconsider yourself blessed. Best thing to do is look for the best car for the money.....color can be changed but rust and missing parts cost more to repair.

Re: Ever since I was about 3-4 years old I've wanted an XC

Our club is always getting letters from people with XCs for sale, They usually want ridiculous money for them , Eg: $7000 - $10,000 (sometimes more for very low Kms) for stocker sedans. You shouldnt have to pay more then $5,000 for a top one though, shop around. The interest in XCs will start to climb (and probably the values) as in just over a years time, the first ones will be eligible for club rego. Exactly what colour XC you like? I reckon the XC colour choice was pretty bland. Only two that look great are the '78 update colours midnight blue (with dusk interior) and Emerald green (with jade interior) I have the latter! There was a cool orange in the updates and The Pine and lime was pretty funky too but the rest are pretty ordinary, I have lots of old XC brochres and opitions lists if you need any info let me know and I can scan it for you. My local wreckers is dismantalling an XC at the moment with 110,00Km on it. It is a late ,78 that has had a slight knock in the rear end. The rest of the car is dead straight and it has no rust anywhere. just so you know there are still good Xcs out there, lots which appear to be coming off the road because , sadly the owners are no longer able to drive them. You can tell the old peoples cars straight away. the paint looks brand new on them except for all the parking scrape and broken mirrors etc.

NICE coupe! He might even get it. People go crazy over coupes these days. Did you see the pink XC ute on there. How . The only thing straight about it is the gas. Oh well the Mardi Gras is on again next month
