Factory XB GT with XC R-Pack interior- best of both worlds
I just came across this site. It has for sale an XB GT coupe made in 1976 with factory fitted XC interior! One of only two made. Bloody shame that. One thing that pi**es me off about the XBs is the interior and instrument cluster...(IMO, dont flame me lol.)
Re: Factory XB GT with XC R-Pack interior- best of both worlds
Seems a bit sus to me.
Further down that "sold cars" list, they state that the John Goss Special they had for sale was one of only 260 ever made ! I'd like to know where they got that figure, seeing as Ford themselves don't have an exact number of how many were made. Ford actually "estimate" that approx 500 were built.
I guess it's easy to make claims that are hard to prove/disprove when you're trying to sell a car. NO WAY I'd fork out $$$ for an XB GT with a "supposed" factory fitted XC dash.
Don't take offence XC Coupe 78, I love the XC GS dash, just don't reckon it belongs in an XB that's all.

none taken, we all have our preferences in the end, ive just always laughed with a friend of mine about an XB with an XC dash, and here appears to be one factory fitted!

I find it very hard to believe that this could be a factory fitted item possibly fitted in the late 70's or 80's before authenticity was such a big deal like it is now.

Yes, I think this is true. Not sure about the figures (one of two), but the last XBs did come with XC parts. That car has XC rear wings (check out the marker lamps).
And for years the accepted number of JGS cars was 260. It is only now that, with their popularity, folk are bothering to check out old publications. The snag then is that magazines can also be wrong. There also used to be the JGS myth that the green ones were autos and the blue ones were manuals (or was it the other way around) and that there was a brown colour scheme too.

Yep, heard of a few of the last XB's running out with XC's interiors from the factory. And though I wouldn't go as far as 'xagt_coupe' about the XC dash I think the XA/XB dash so much smarter, and chose buying an XB over the XC partly because of it.
Re: Factory XB GT with XC R-Pack interior- best of both worlds
i'm the exact opposite in opinion, i think the XA-XB dash looks primitive and from experience i found it difficult to use and poorly designed besides the wrap around feature it has going...the XC dash is straightforward and no bullsh*t, youve got all your guages, buttons etc in close reach and it isnt as spaced out as the XB dash where the buttons and shite are all over the place...and that brown colour is ugly, though i'm not sure if the XBs etc came out with diff colour dashes (?)
