Does anyone know what is used to cover the lights on the XW/XY race cars?
I dont know whether or not they've just been painted or if they're actually covers.
Heres a pic i found of one.

Silver electical tape maybe.

I would have to agree, it looks like tape. Probably from one of the original rolls of 100 mph tape!

That stuff definately looks like some kinda tape or contact, if you look at some other racing Falcons of the period they used to place a cross of black tape across the headlights. It was a very common thing in racing to hold the glass together incase of damage from a stone etc. If you look at the original HO's many of them came with wire mesh guards over the lights.

Yep its a great site Fordy. We owe David Bowden so much for keeping an incredible range of our motor racing heritage alive and in excellent condition.

I reckon Moffat's 69 Mustang is in better condition now than when I first saw it in 1972 at Warwick Farm.

Well i wanted to go for that silver look on my spotties but i aint going to tape them up, so seeing as i have a spair set of glass which looks crap anyway i might paint them and see what it looks like.
