Help Disassembling Master brake Cylinder

So, we just got a rebuild kit for this and I cant figure out how to get the old piston out of it. I got the snap ring out and thats as far as I got. From what I saw in the rebuild kit, I gather that there should probably be a return spring pushing back on this thing so why wont it come out?

What am I missing here?
