Help wanted to fit toploader to XC coupe in Sydney
My mate as asked me to put up this message. He has an XC Fairmont coupe and the auto is stuffed so he cant drive it. He wants someone who knows what they are doing to help him pull the auto and fit a toploader. He tells me he has all the parts. Located in North-west Sydney, Ryde area. He is willing to pay good money for labour for up to two days if required. If you send me a PM I will give you his details. Thanks
Re: Help wanted to fit toploader to XC coupe in Sydney
You will run in all sorts of problems.
I.E. extra pedal ,Clutch, the clutch it self, the different boltpatern fot the gearbox, i.e. a 6 cil C4 is different to a 8 cil C4 and so on .
Change motor ,gearbox and pedalbox plus all sorts of other gear.
Best way is to get the Auto fixed and reinstalled.
BUT,............. best of luck and keep us informed, should be a very good story!

It should all bolt straight up as the bolt patterns were the same. I can think of one this your friend may have forgotten? The spacer for the starter motor.
Re: Help wanted to fit toploader to XC coupe in Sydney
i did this a few years ago on an xd. from memory the clutch was difficult because i didn't have the alignment tool, other than that it was pretty straight forward. a trolley jack will be useful. hold the back of the engine up also because it will sag on the mounts and be hard to line the box up.
Re: Help wanted to fit toploader to XC coupe in Sydney
I've changed my 'ole Patrol from an auto to a manual (3 cars-Patrol, commondoor and now the love of my life, the XB coupe).
Don't forget the spigot bush/bearing (I think this would apply to all manuals, but I've never looked at changing an early Ford to a manual, and my XB wont be the first).
The spigot (at least in the Patrol) is a brass sleeve that fits into the centre of the flywheel. The drive shaft running out of the the front of the gearbox that is driven by the clutch fits into this bush. This keeps it centred.
Anybody, feel free to correct me if I am wrong, just offering what advice I can...
