I finally found a decent XC coupe that hasnt slipped through my fingers...
a few questions on rust....
The body is straight and rust free EXCEPT there is a five cent size piece near the rear tailight. thats not the part i'm worried about though. there is a split coming through on the rear mudguard above the wheel, where the safety strip (protection pack shite) should be...i'm guessing thats bog. the other spot of rust is near the point of the gutter moulding at the back of the car...where the gutter moulding comes to the distincvt point that the coupes have at the rear window. the front mudguards, doors and pillars APPEAR to be rust free.
Otherwise car is in excellent condition. all electrics work, lights, guages etc. never had a problem with the engine. other problem is its on gas, isnt the original engine and has been converted to a manual though this was all done professionally. the trans bit doesnt worry me, i would have dropped in a manual anyway but the engine does. I wanted a matching chassis and engine but i guess you cant have everything. Car has colourcoded bumpers, twin exhaust bumper and black surrounds on the tailight and windscreen.
Any opinions? he wants 6000 for it which sounds fairly reasonable but i guess i'll see when i actually see the car....
Please hurry with your opinions...i'll be flying tomm sometime.
Daniel.

Aust design rules, - 27A is the first with any major sort of pollution controls and the xc will have it. Hence the reason most people go pre 27A , ie. XA/XB.
xc's seem to be hard to find. $6k does not seem unreasonable for one. I would not get worried about the original engine number, but some people do.
Be wary if it has been resprayed at some time (and virtually all xabc cars have by now). check the rear quarters for bog. easy to do by popping the boot and running your hands along the inside and outside of the quarter. you will be able to pick up any major bog like this. you are right about cracking, this will usually be bog. it will all have to be removed down to bare metal to fix.
As far as i know no xc (except cobra) had color coded bumpers. it sounds like a fair bit has been done to the car.
Also make sure all trim is there, some of the xc trim is really rare (think trim off the rear of the xc fairmont coupes)
just got back from melbourne. Car was a shit heap. Bog everywhere and in all the worse places. I'm not even going to go into detail...just think in every panel and rust prone spot there was bog. So yeah. it took me about 30 seconds to realise "i'm not buying this" and let him know. Not worth 6 grand at all...wasnt too worried about the other stuff such as the trim as ive already got a completet interior...just need a decent body to put it in!
Thanks for the advice though and if any of you spot a decent XC GS coupe (must be V8 prefer manual, '77-78 year) let me know asap, regardless of where you are located by PMing me or msgng me on my mobile. 0423224065.
Thanks

ADR27a is emissions control equipment. All post July 76 vehicles need to comply. Basically you need to run the original carburettor, exhaust gas recirculation, charcoal cannister and sealed fuel system, correct air cleaner also with the flap I think.
