John Goss Special questions

Hoping someone can answer some questions

Did John Goss Specials come out with any of the following?

9" diff - or did they all have Borg Warners ?

GS/GT grille - or did they all have the single headlight configuration ?

Top Loaders - or were they all Borg Warners ?

4WD brakes ?

Thanks in advance

They had the 8 3/4" BW diff

I believe the twin headlight setup was an option (like anything in those days) but most left the factory without driving lights.

BW gearboxes as well. Often called the "single rail" box

Drums on the rear, disk front. Only the GTs & luxo models scored rear disks.

Re: John Goss Special questions

greatly appreciated Yellow Fire

Is it possible that an upgrade to 4wd brakes was available at that time?

Hate to do this to you mate, but the BW rear was a 7-3/4" aka the BW78. The ring gear is not that big. When I imported my hardtop I had a blown diff. What a pain in the arse to find the parts I needed. Eventually I tracked down the part numbers and found that GM used the same BW rear on the mid to late 1980's Z-28 and Trans-Ams. Although the GM disc brakes were PBR, they would not interchange with the Ford AU discs. All the other parts were correct. Hope this helps.

Correct :) Thanks for picking that up. Looks like the brain wasn't in gear.

I don't know for sure so I'm happy to be corrected. The JGS was a pretty limited run so I don't know how flexible Ford would have been with upgrades like that. In my experience rear disks on non-GT XBs are pretty rare.

No,
rear discs were only avaliable on the 9" rear end used on the XBGT and Landau/LTD ie: 351 powered cars.
Im pretty sure Goss cars were based on 302 auto Falcon 500 XB GS's.
