The fun has begun.






I've started to strip her down.




Pulled the two front guards off and found more rust...worst luck, I guess it should be no suprise.

I've bought a GS bonnet which is getting repaired at the moment removing any bog and and a couple of rust spots.

Bought other parts such as console, GS facia and clock, dual port rear stone guard, hump for the floor shifter and other little things.

Next step I will be removing the drivetrain.

The rust realy isnt that bad for one of these old girls, and it looks bloody tidy before you started to strip it down. Are you going to weld up the rust yourself or pay to get it done?

Rust wise it was the best I could find for $1200 and there are some real shit out there but there's more rust than what is shown so far.

I'll be paying to get the rust repairs done which will cost me around $5000 (these guys don't use any bog) and could be more when I strip the paint off to bare metal as there are signs she's been banged up a couple of times at the rear.

When you fit the floor hump for the shifter,there is also an extra support crossmember that goes between the seats and over the trans tunnel to stiffen the floor after it is cut.You will need to cut one from another car and weld it in place..It does stiffen the floor up..

JG ,I did the same thing with my xr fairmont but chose to have the body plastic blasted by Action Blast in Hazelmere. This process removes absolutley everything and all signs of rust.After 2 years of panel work its finally in the shop ready to be painted.Good luck with the project.btw ,i,m in perth as well so pm me if you need help as i have just been thru this stage.

Is that the one that goes across from one side to the other and I think it either goes through underneath the seats or behind them?

We had the same Gold Xb Falcon 500 in 70s when I was a kid. My old man used to let me slide over on the bench seat and steer while going down Great Western Highway to Sydney. Will you return it to the same gold. Will watch this pace with keen interest
