I was checking out under my XB and noticed the left hand rear wheel is a little closer to the back guard than the right.

Is this normal? or is it supposed to be even.

Something similar happened to my EA Wagon. They should be even.
I took it to a tyre shop to get aligned but they said they don't do mechanical work.
Suspension shops should be able to do it. Cost me about $50 for a 4 wheel alignment.

Back wheels are not adjustable so no use in getting a wheel alignment, something could be worn out like the bushes in your trailing arms or the quaterpanel might have had a repair on it one stage.

If the car has been in a big prang before a been forced sidways sometimes that can push the diff across.

The back wheels aren't adjustable but the diff is. the U-bolts could just be lose or something.
My diff still moves occaisionally, it slides forward & backwards along the leafs on the right hand side only.

You might want to check the Locating Pin that goes through the Leaf Spring Pack up into the Spring Mount on the Axle Housing. It might have sheared.

Failing that, you car could have had a fair shunt in the rear at some stage.

Will check that out, I suspected it has been in a prang, there is some bog in the rear panels and the boot lid isn't sitting properly I just hope it can be fixed and the car's drivability is not affected.
The problem is if I put wider wheels one side will be alright the other may scrape the guard so it has to be done.
