anyone out there ever had a problem with the speedo needle pulsing?? I have an xb ute gs 351. Am I up for a new speedo cable?? also chasing a gs steering wheel, anyone know of any for sale?? Ford want $890!!!!! Has anyone ever come across any websites with much info about utes?? theres always heaps about coupes and sedans. Thanks.

The inside of the cables can lose their lubrication and can "gunk up". This causes the inner cable to grab on the sides and then let go causing the pulsing. You could try pulling the whole thing out and blasting degreaser thru it and then a blast of lithium spray grease etc to freshen it up.

Look for any kinks and excessive bends in it. This can cause them to shake too.

G'day,
your drive and driven gears could also be worn...i would try the above suggestions first.

If you get through them, and also replace the gears as i suggest (last home mech solution) then the speedo itself is crook

You could however start at the speedo unit, and have it repaired by a reputable place (most major cities have at least one), only to find it wasn't the unit but the cable or gears.

You are in a veritable minefield....start withe the cable, it is easily home mech serviced.

Hello guys,

My speedo in my car (XA Fairmont) has been pulsing for a while now. Today I pulled it out and stuck it back in before taking it for a drive.

I've only noticed pulsing when i'm going at a speed of <30 mph, but greater than that, the needle is steady. My question is, is it common for these cars to have the speedo needle pulsing at speeds <30 mph?

Mine sticks at 60mph/100kph doesnt go any further and then when i brake it will stay there for anywhere up to 10 seconds - up to that 100kph point it is not too bad - can be a bit "bouncy" - will doing the above help my situation?

I just thought cable was stuffed and was going to replace it - but if this will fix it.....

Not sure what a new cable is worth, probably not that much. So for what it's worth and the pain it is to get behind the dash and under your car to get the cable out, I would probably replace the old one with a new one and possibly avoid having to do it twice.

Make shure you get the correct cable. Manual and auto are diffrent lengths. Auto longer..

Cables work around $60-65 new. http://www.autocables.com.au sell them.

I bought one of their cables when I did the glide conversion. Also bought a new handbrake cable from them last year.
