To me it feels like it's 20:1 because I feel like I have to work the steering wheel a hell of a lot, but maybe thats just because I've been driving smaller newer cars in the past and they are so easy to drive. So is there a way of telling which box it has by looking at it?

16:1 steering boxes are heavier to steer than 20:1 , and thats the first time I've heard that about GS's. Also , It is usually stamped into the top plate of the steering box or I think in some cases stamped onto a tag that is bolted on the top plate. As far as I know there were three available in the XY range...they were: 16M...XY Falcon GT[with non-power steering] 16P...All XY and ZD with Factory Power Steering. 20M...All other XY's [non-power steering]as Standard , I'm not sure what was in the ZD Custom's
