Was there a phase 5??

Hi all,
a mate bought over an old 2002 unique cars issue which has an article titled "phase five was alive" and apparently there were 2 XC coupe prototypes built and were the brainchildren of fords designers wayne draper and peter arcidipane in the hope of convincing management to continue the HO series.

So is this story real? Was the phase 5 alive?

Cheers
Jim

Re: Was there a phase 5??

No phase 5, sorry.
That story (if it is the same one I am thinking of) was a body kit developed by the two and they tried to get management to offer it through the dealers as an accessory.
The Phase Five was mentioned tongue in cheek, not seriously.

Re: Was there a phase 5??

Wayne Draper went into private business. He posted a few threads here a year or two back.

Details here => http://www.gruppea.com.au (read the Profile page for some of the history)

I think he registered "Phase" and "HO" as trademarks.

There are some interesting photos of X-series then E-series cars all wearing a PHASE # number plate in the HO (Homologated Options) section.

Re: Was there a phase 5??

I too had read the same article in unique cars but I have always been told that the Phase 5 was only a planned car. the phase 4 was the XA sedan, and the phase 5 was to be the coupe. So when the phase 4 was given the boot, all plans for the phase 5 were discarded.

Re: Was there a phase 5??

The UC article, from memeory, indicated that there were two XB Coupe Phase 5 concepts cars produced with 429 Big Blocks. They were later sold off with 351 in them. They had funky looking huge nasa scoops in the rear quarter panels for brake cooling...

See my post on the following thread:

Re: Was there a phase 5??

Thats the article coupecruiser, so do you think they were actually made/ did exist? Or is the article stretching things?

Cheers

Re: Was there a phase 5??

There is a strong evidence that one XA GT coupe was modified on the factory line with full phase 4 running gear. What's not widely known about the car is whether it had HO stamped on the compliance plate. If the car still exists and it does have "HO" then it will be the only phase 5 GT in existence.
