I am interested in buying an XY-XB 6 cylinder and dropping a 302 or 351 in it. Wanna get just an old grandma car that has a nice clean body and go from there. So picture just an ordinary 200 or 250 or whatever motor, whats involved in dropping the clevo in? Is it basically just getting the V8 mounts and a gearbox??? Are the crossmember gearbox supports the same or not? What sort of gearbox setup can I hook up to a clevo? preferably manual.

Diff upgrade necessary?

wish it was that easy, top loader or single rail would work
but you need to do the lot, diff, brakes and suspension all need changing

V8 Mounts
V8 throttle bar (or modify the 6 cyl one or use an XD cable bedal setup)
Crossmembers are the same
Top Loader is good
C4 Auto is also good - probably easier to get.
If the car has disk brakes already, they will be the same as V8 ones and will be fine. Otherwise you'll need to get some disk brakes, booster etc for it.
It'll need new front springs and probably shocks too.
Might need a bigger radiator.

All in all, a pretty easy conversion - even easier if you have a V8 donor car to work from...

The 6cyl diff will survive for quite a while if you look after it...

$11K or there abouts to do it in nice and propperly

i dunno where your throwing your money, but 1.5 k for an exhaust!!!!!

On a customer vehicle recently i had a FULL dual exhaust fitted for $370 ($400 if it required tips)

Now this wasn't your run of the mill 2 inch system, it was 2 1/2 each side indcluding mount etc!

At 1.5k as you quoted your getting taken to an expensive bar!

1k for a a C4-C10 auto... again your getting ripped! last price i got for a rebuild C4 was 450 bucks!!!


Honestly, the cheapest way to do a V8 conversion remains to buy a donor car with all the bits, then only replace that which needs it.

the best price i got, which is shopping around like 15 different place and mine
was $1300, still havent got it yet but thats the best i can get

a 2.5 is a bit different, but then the price i quoted was for a dual 2.5. (1970 Boss 302)

Sounds like robbery.....maybe your exhaust centres are all owned by the fuel companies!

The best way is to get two cars. One with a good body, and the other being a v8 donor car that has all of the parts that you need.

I am guessing that the $1500 exhaust includes some type of extractors and the $370 does not?
