I'm looking at buying a 'restorable' Ranchero. The guy has no title.
The front and rear look like a 1963, except the VIN on the door decodes as a 1960.

Does anybody know if the VIN is also located anywhere else? It would sure help to have a VIN for the getting a title from the state...

Anything else I can/should look at to determine the year?

I'd bet your in North America. Most posters on this board are in Australia. Try the national chapter of the Falcon Club of America. BTW, the 1960-63 Rancheros were changed very little through the model years so it could be a 60 with some 63 sheet metal. Was it ever in an accident? For years you could not get repop sheetmetal for those cars so someone could have just made do with the sheetmetal off a 63 they found.

the door tag is not recognised in most states of the US as it is easily tranfserable to another car.

I have an australian built 63, and the vin is also stamped on the top of the radiator support.

keep searching the engine bay on welded panels, i.e top of the aprons etc...there should be one there.
