Howdy folks, next on my list for the XA is a major tidy up of the interior. All of my door cards are rough, the carpet is crap and the seats are stuffed, so it's a major job. What I really want to end up with is something like this (click). I realise that with my interior in such extremely poor condition it will be an expensive proposition, but I'm not in a hurry.

Now, my question is about the door trim. My car is a base model Falcon 500 and has those horrible door cards that end about 3 inches below the window, with body coloured steel filling the gap (if you don't understand what I'm on about I can take a photo). I want the door trims that go all the way to the top of the window, but can't see how they would fit. Will they clip onto my doors, or do you need doors originally fitted with this type of trim? Which models came out of the factory with these door cards?

Also I want some of those cool reading lamps that go i nthe C pillar, I assume I will need to buy a hood lining from a Fairmont?

You need fairmont door trims, they go to the top of the door. If you get new trims done, you will need to obtain the tops from any xa xb fairmont. The pillar lights for the rear are a screw in item, I have a spare set or two lying around, you just cut the light hole out of the roof lining. Easy.

Not quite. From memory there is a seal on the top inside edge of the door you need to remove. Its pop riveted on. This seal is on the Fairmont door cards is part trim. No big deal. You will also need the spring clips that hold the top of the arm rest and pop rivet them in place. Get them of a fairlane ot fairmont. You will also need the correct armrests. The 500/Futura has the same arm rests front and rear, the Fairlane/Fairmont have the curved front rest.

Sounds like I might be better off finding a Fairmont parts car, just don't know how hard it will be to find one with a nice interior but buggered body/driveline for nice and cheap. Still, no hurry. I plan to buy lots of little things like interior/map lights, gauges, shifter etc. brand new.

If it helps - my prices are from what I can remember:

I paid about $450 for a re-upholster for my rear seat - that's without the arm rest. About $600 for my front bench seat and roughly $120 each for the door trims. New 2 piece plush carpet was $100. I got my steering wheel woodgrained for $300 odd but that's just a personal touch.

Works out to be around the $1500 - $2000 to get a nice job.

Hey lilmattie, sorry this might be obvious but those prices your talking about reupholster your rear and front seats, are those prices excluding the new materials?
