Okay Guys, I just picked up a toploader that seems a bit of a bargain...
The guy selling it said it was a close ratio out of a XA GT, came with bellhousing, shifter, twin plate clutch setup etc, and still had the ID tag on it...
Now, I've compared the id tag against the listings on David Kees toploader site, and its a RUG-BF1, which is apparently a wide ratio... this doesn't bother me so much, just means its not quite the Bargain it might have been....
But my question is, did XA GT's ever come with a Close ratio box?
Will the XA shifter setup work with my XY's console?
Did anything else come with the twin plate setup on a Toploader?
Is the twin plate setup worth using?
Thanks Guys!
Ben
(going out to the shed with a torch to count teeth.... one could hope! gunna look at the clutch a little too)
well, Its a 28spline output and 31 toothe 2nd gear, so its a wide ratio...
However, the clutch matches the descriptions of the GTHO clutch mods... or did this become standard on the later cars?
if u dont mind me asking what price. i have a genuine xy close ratio box , twin plate ect paid 1200 for it. has a indy shifter. what is the code ?? or site?
as for clutch u are better of with a bronco set up these days.
I paid $650 for it... feels like it at least needs a set of bearings/bushes/seals through it, but the teeth look beaut and the syncros look ok too.
I imagine the XY close ratio boxes would be an RUG-AK or RUG-AS...
What does a set of frictions for a twin plate cost? I am planning on putting 500 horse and 500 ft/lb through it....
$1200 sounds pretty good, was the box in good order?
I'll give you a call about fabbing intake manifolds in a coule of weeks when my blower arrives... When are you heading to the states?
Cool. Back when I was like 16 i went through A period of wanting a mini, specifically one with a BMW K1200 head on it.... there was a good article about one in a Miniworld back then (eep, 10 years agoish!)
My Eaton Just arrived! Love USPS Airmail! $180US to ship a 41 pound box in a week!
In reading the GTHO Phase IV saga, some of the three phase IV's came with a close ratio box, but I have not heard of them otherwise, except for racing use.
I use an XY GTHO shifter set-up in my XB, so I can't see why it wouldn't work opposite
I had used a twin plate, and found it not as good as the Hayes single 11" clutch,
but for that sort of power you should go with what I have now, which is a single plate 11 1/2" Kevlar coated custom jobby with weight transfers on the fingers for much better shifting. The clutch cost me around the $1200 figure.
