I'm getting a Superbird restored and have just been told by an "expert" trimmer that they used the same seat material as the XA GT.This sounds like a load of shite to me as the trim currently in the car (original) looks the same to me as plain old XA black basketweave. As far as I knew XA GT and Fairmont trim was a grained vinyl and the XA 500,on which the Superbird was based, had the basketweave.Am I correct?
Superbirds used the basket weave material and most XA Gt's I have seen have the grained vinyl as you said. However a friend of mine has an RPO GT coupe with the basket weave material which is original as he bought the car off his friend who was the original owner so knows it came with that material.
By the way the Superbird you are doing is it Green or White?
Gday Bruce, its' blue & white. It was the one for sale at the Ford Day if you went.It was a one owner and is so original it's not funny.AM radio, single exhaust, mint back seat & crash pad,and guages that are as clear as the day they were made.
The car actually lived not far from me a few years ago and I had been trying to locate it recently. How's that for weird?
They are the same as the normal falcon 500 pattern. The basketweave style as per falc 500 and futura. Fairmonts and GT's were a patterned vinyl, no basketweave except on some occasions on the seats. A mate of mine had a red pepper 73 xa gt coupe, and it had b2 trim, the door trims were normal xa gt, and the seats had the basketweave in the bucket bits, not cloth.
Yes I saw it at the AFD and took a few pics, glad to hear you got it and would like to see it sometime when your finished. I think you have your answer on the seat material.
I saw a Green Superbird on the back of a tow truck in Dandenong which ended up being sold by 1st Affordable wreckers so was wondering if it was you who bought that one. Also know of another one that is White /Blue that is supposed to be for sale but have yet not been able to organise a time suitable with the owner to go look at it.
I saw that one advertised and meant to have a look at it.I have wanted a Lime Glaze XA coupe for ages and I won't stop until I get one! What was it like?I saw the ad in the Trading Post.Is it definitely sold?
Very little rust in it, except for usual coupe bottom of pillars and below rear window. Ive wanted a green/green with white interior for quite a while.
