hi all

are the coupe doors on the XA-XCs interchangeable?

Also, can someone give me a breakdown of the engine/chassis and VIN plate details and number and what they mean? (sorry bout the excess 'ands') i'm trying to find the month the coupe i want to buy was built in.

Hey Daniel,

Except for the door handles on XA, all coupe door interchange.....you can also use Ute and Panelvan doors on coupes but you need o change the side glass to coupe glass.

What are the first 6 characters of the VIN on the coupe you are looking at? Mine is JG67NC which means it is a 9/73 Fairmont Hardtop. If you can post that JG6xxx info, there are several people on here that can break it down for you.

The only other diff between the doors is xc doors have the side impact/intrusion bars, which double their total weight.
Quick Tip......
If you have an xa, you can use the later doors, all you do is cut out the handle section from any xa sedan, and weld the piece into the later door hole.

Another Tip.....
If the striker area is cracked (pretty common in coupes), you can also replace it the same way with a sedan one....Much easier to come by....

Yes. Take a quick look online at XA Falcons and you'll see that the door handle is a separate piece from the "pocket" that is stamped into the door. On XB/C doors, the door panel has a rectangle hole stamped into it and a complete door handle and cup slip into the rectangle hole. The XA door handle will not fit a XB/C door and vise-versa. There is a set of XA sedan doors on e-Bay right now that you can see the difference in the handles.

The inner door handle location is also different.XA/B is mounted up high towards the front of the door and XC is in the armrest.

I just needed to know, is it worth getting an XC coupe or ute door for an XA or XB coupe or is there a bit of stuffing around with the locking mechanisms, I know the inner door handle are in different areas.

If you check out the inner door panel, the holes are in the same spots(xa to xc), I have used xc doors on an xb, you just use the xb bits from inside the door, and the inner handel fits right in like it's ment to in the correct place.
