Question Xb Coupe Bathurst Special

Walking around old mates farm on the weekend after taking a look at his white green auto "GOSSIE" and the collection in his bone yard we walked over to one shed to take a look at his daughters car. Much to our supprise when we pulled back the old car cover was a now red XB 351 T/Loader 9` Coupe (was once yellow blazze of pine lime in colour) it had all GT factory options except sunroof, and a littie something that I have never seen, on the lower rear spring plates where the shocks mounted was a second mounting that looked like you could run a second shock. Has anybody seen this before ?
Also the interior is black with a yellow gold cloth insert in both front & rear seats.
Old mate said that he had been told that it was ONE of TEN Bathurst models road registered race cars, I have heard of these race cars making it onto the street and one way to ID them (so I was told) was that they had a larger rear wheel tub. Not having seen one close up before I was not shure but the outer wall section of the wheel arch seemed to go up a long way before it turned inwards.
The car was locked & I was unable to get a look at numbers or plates but I shall be returning for a better look soon.
His daughter stopped driving it a few years ago as rust started springing out of it in all the wrong places including right in the middle of the drivers door skin and she thought it was un safe. Was it the practice to reduce the shell weight by not fitting and sound proofing and seam sealer (this might explain the rust) ?

By the was this car is not not not for sale.

Regard`s James.

Re: Xb Coupe Bathurst Special

In Australian Muscle Car magazine a few issues back there was a story on an XC homologation special.
It had the widened rear wheel tubs, like you described
A idler arm support bracket and a strut tower brace, like the Bathurst Cobra's.
Also had front spring tower reinforcment plates.

Article says the chassis no. prefix was JG65TE on all these cars
Apparently there were 13 of them made in December '77, pre-dating the Cobra by about 6 months.

You say the one you saw was an XB, but who knows.. there is one lead for you anyway..
