I'm off to suss out an XB GS coupe tomorrow, just wonder what I should be looking for. It's a resto project, far from show room condition but it's come up and I'm not one to ignore the cards you get delt.
The owner tells me it's got rust in the rear quarters and the parcel shelf. I know these are the usual places, are there any other areas I should look out for?
Does anyone have a list of colour codes for the XB? I'm guessing the GT Club website will be incomplete as different colours would of been on the GS and GT?
What GT parts did the GS score? Obviously the bonnet, but what else? I'm not too cluely on GT parts, I'm guessing dash, maybe steering wheel, fuel cap?
i think you'll find the colour codes on the GT club site to be quite comprehensive for xb range.
gs was an option on anything eg: fairmont, falcon panel van etc. 6 cylinder or v8. auto or manual.
not all gs had driving lights, these were optional.
gs had 14x6 12 slots with trim rings and centre caps that were chrome and blank in the middle. (gt had a "gt" badge)
gs had a stick on side stripe from rear to front bumper
easiest way to check for original is the dash wiring loom for extra guages.
I dont believe there actually is any way to definatively ID a GS, as it was more of an add on pack rather than a seperate model like the GT.
As for colours, they are all the same as far as I know.
Hope some of that helps

I'm not gonna touch it, bit too much rust for my liking. Front panels were ok, doors need to be turfed, driver's sill needs a heap of work, usual spots on the roof around the windows, the parcel shelf flexes....the bottom of the boot scared me (you could see through heaps of it near the tail lights).
Only thing going for it was the interior (missing the front seats though). Rear seats were perfect, allthough I'm sure a rear end impact would result in them ending up in the engine bay.
being that bad, i wouldn't touch it unless it was a gt or cobra, where you could get some of your money back when it came time to sell.
probably worth more as a parts car.
Driving Lights were an option on the GS pack, not standard.

depending on what he is asking though. If thats the extent of the rust, its not bad! Corners for the boot channel, $33.00 each. Length of straight boot channel, $30.00. Complete rear section of back window including boot channel, $145.00. Can be bought aslong as you can handle a mig or have someone competant to do the job. Door skins also avaiable. Hate to see a small bit of rust destroy a coupe, but then more that disappear makes mine worth that little bit extra!!!!

Yes the rust spot's arn't to bad, you can get rust repair section's, you just need to find the right person for the job to make sure they fit proberly and don't cut corner's, but do your homework and find out just what it is going to cost you 1st.
