Gday folks ,

I was looking at a XB GT sedan in a lot last night (2am!) and althought it was claimed and appeared genuine I would like a few more things to go off.

Anyone remember the engine numbers? I know JG33 for the earlier GT's , this has a JG23 series motor.

Also were all the 9inches LSD???

Its a cheap nice looking car (black on silver) that has had only a bit of rust (from what I could see at 2am) in the usual spots.

Anyone give me some pointers?

how much,you should get the numbers off the id plate and ring ford and they can trace the car back.being told they keep everyting on GT,s .I rang up with my engine number to find out if it was 351 or 302.when ihad been told it was a 400 or351it was a302 i all ready had two of those.RIPED OFF,PAY BACKS ARE A BITCH!!.nexted time ill check first.

Sedans had the jg33 prefix on the engine #,coupes were jg66..All 9" diffs fitted to aussie falcons were lsd.If it is a gt it should have 4 wheel discs too.
jg23 is a normal falcon ..

Thanks all ,

its 7 grand which isnt a lot for a GT , thus I dont expect to much from it despite it looking rather good at 2am.... after a few drinks.

and after reading up all the stuff from the exceptionaly useful link provided by JG33 I am sure it isnt a GT and they are a bunch of dodgy bums as I am sure they were trying to flog it off as a GT.

Oh well , shouldnt have really expected to find a bargain!

As was said before,

Check ID tags and Chasis number. Both should have JG 33 Prefix. Other bits too look for are trailing arms on rear suspension and brake proportioning valve on rear of right hand shocker tower.

Bdave is it an auto or Manual? Early XB GT's were fitted with Top Loaders and mid to later XB's all had single rail boxes. I am sure the Radiator support panel is thicker on the GT compared to the GS, 500, Fairmont�s. I know on the earlier GT Falcons it also had a number stamped in there as well which should correspond with the JJ 33 on the Compliance plate.

The Mrs and I went to have a look at a XB GT last year, which was going for 5,500. A friend of our who had an XB sold his for 7,000 and it was a little rusty. He sold it because he could not keep both that and his XY GT.

I will try and contact him tomorrow and get more details on the XB GT's.
