I have a set of XB GT tramp rods that I wish to fit to my XC. They are the ones with the bend in them. My XC workshop manual shows STRAIGHT a tramp rod for the LH side only and a bracket exactly where my fuel line goes! I know Ford can throw pictures of earlier models in their workshop manuals that are different. Which is the correct rod for an XC? Straight or bent?? I am pretty sure it does use the bracket but I am thinking of drilling my chassis rail and welding in a ferrule for the front to bolt through. Has anyone done this? Any advice or pics would be most helpfull, thanks in advance. Also, how do I tel which end goes in the bracket and which end bolts to the car??
Why? The only obstacle I can see so far is that my heavy duty (thicker) U bolts dont fit over diff brackets because they have thicker rod and a tighter inside radius as a result.
xb's have the bend in them to clear the brakes. the u bolt has a mushroom shaped head to go over the diff bracket but still line up with the spring plate. you can get the proper u bolts from www.fomoco.com.au
the rods are the same shape back to front so won't matter which end goes to your diff or chassis.
OK, I wil have to make up my mind if its worth any extra effort. At the moment I could get back what they owe me if I get rid of them, I WONT be paying $29 each from those dills as I dont deal with them anymore. I will get a price from my local Pedders store. The ones I have are fairly new and were $17.50 each.
Looking @ them I can't even imagine where they'd mount to? I'm the type of person that has to get under the car to see.
I doubt they'd differ as XB and XC are identical in the arse. I've had both XB and XC. The diff etc in my XB is all from an XC wagon. A work mate has an XC GXL and underneath it's identical to mine except I have more leaf springs (not factory) and I have bigger exhaust pipes.
I had to take my rear sway bar off due to running the pipes where I have. Both would probably stop my uni issues??
There is a kind of notched bit in the chassis rail that they line up with, but factory mounting was a bracket right where my fuel fliter is according to the XC manual
If you have the Xc rear discs with the rear mount calipers ,those brackets will foul the caliper.
I have drilled the chassis for those before but you will need to weld in a nice solid sleeve to to the chassis end.You are correcct on the bracket. The XC bars mount to a bracket spot welded to the floor beside the wheel arch.
Those bars pictured mounted through the chassis rail.
If you have drums they'll work fine.
One set of that type i used with the rear mount caliper,i cut the brackets and repositioned the mount more upright and shortened the bars.

The pic of the bracket in the XC manual leans back just like the one I have. Are you sure it wil foul the XC caliper? I might go and check right now.
I checked they definitely foul the rear mounted caliper. Thanks for the tip, saved me a few hassles. They are now for sale on E Bay. I have seen ones with old rubber bushes go for more then my list price. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....tem=2495236066
